Summer School - from 30 June
At The British School of Málaga, all our students are multilingual learners. From Early Years to Sixth Form, they are immersed in English and Spanish, fast-tracking their fluency in both languages while continuing to grow in their home languages. A dedicated English as an Additional Language Department makes sure to support students with dedicated sessions and tailored help. This makes our school community a thriving hotspot of diverse culture and language use, where all cultural heritages and languages are valued and celebrated.Learners further enhance their global citizenship by exploring German or French as additional languages.
Students experience tailored English classes and support thanks to our English as an Additional Language (EAL) team, through 1:1 sessions and continuous guidance in Reading, Writing and Listening and Speaking areas.
BSM welcomes students from over 50 nationalities who speak more than 25 languages, creating a diverse and inclusive international community.
All students' cultural and linguistic backgrounds are welcomed and celebrated at BSM, making sure home heritages are valued. Our whole community makes sure to embrace diversity and share celebrations.
Students are immersed in English following the British national curriculum programme, catering to ages 3 to 18.
From Secondary students enhance their language proficiency and elevate multilingual skills by learning French or German in class or exercising among peers in dedicated after-school clubs.
Students achieve fluency in various world languages with the support of a highly trained teaching staff dedicated to multilingual learners.
When students enrol at The British School of Málaga, they take an English language test to assess their level. Those who require additional support benefit from an additional English programme in our English as an Additional Language department with additional one-on-one or small groups sessions.
Students who don't reach expected language skills in Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking benefit from additional intensive English sessions through tailored interventions assessed case-by-case and according to the learner's age.
All interventions are closely monitored, ensuring each student progresses through various instruments, including class teacher support, visual aids, translated resources, key vocabulary lists, tech tools and close cooperation with parents.
Students preparing for IGCSEs gain from additional guidance in selecting electives, with strategies that prioritise Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) IGCSEs in home languages or subjects that don't require extensive writing.
Students take ownership of at least two world languages throughout a multilingual journey that starts during Early Years and continues up until Sixth Form.
Early Years and Primary
Our youngest learners are immersed in a fully English environment during Nursery, guided by English native speakers.
From Reception and throughout all Primary years, they start to enjoy a bilingual education with classes taught in English for the British curriculum and complemented with Spanish for Spanish Language and Cultural Studies.
Secondary and Sixth Form
Starting from Secondary, students take up a third language, either French or German, leading to GCSE or A Level qualifications.
They can also decide to join one of our dedicated after-school clubs and further practice their fluency with other passionate peers.
Students build the skills an resilience they need to thrive in an interconnected world through rigorous English learning and exciting experiences abroad.
Students empower their language learning through translanguaging, a teaching method that uses different linguistic sources to value each language and enhance multilingualism.
Students receive certified education in English and Spanish. Our Spanish Department manages authorisations with the Education Delegation of the Junta de Andalucía, integrating British studies into ESO and Baccalaureate, ensuring access to both Spanish and international universities.
Students connect with peers globally through exchange programmes in Germany and cultural trips in the UK and US. As part of International Schools Partnership, they also enjoy global opportunities with other ISP sister schools.
Attending BSM gave me two great advantages: a great capacity to speak English professionally and the possibility to study practically anywhere around the world.
Maribel Delgado, Alumni
Attending BSM has two great advantages: a great capacity to speak English professionally, which is really important nowadays, and the possibility to study practically anywhere outside Spain and within Spain, which is something that you do not always get.
Students reflect together on the contributions of Black people to our history, culture and views.
